Sunday Lunch!

The title of this recipe is Bi Bim Bap Beef Bulgogi.... Bi Bim Bap means 'mixed rice' and Bulgogi means meat that was marinated before cooked. I got this recipe from an old Women's Health Magazine, its sooooo yummy and full of protein!! MMM!!

What you will need:

1 lb sirloin steak
1 Asian pear
4 cloves garlic, grated
1 Tbsp grated ginger
4 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp rice wine
2 Tbsp sesame oil
1 1/2 c. brown rice
1 c. bean sprouts
4 c. baby spinach
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 medium zucchini, cut into strips
2 medium carrots, cut into strips
4 eggs

I made a few adjustments on the ingredients. We already had pork so I used pork instead of steak. Also, I used ground ginger in the powder form instead of buying a thing of ginger. I could not find bean sprouts in the store so I didn't make anything in place of that. The recipe says a cup and a half of rice for 4 people but we only had a little less than a cup and it was plenty, we had leftovers.

You need to marinate your meat 2 hours before cooking. Slice your meat into strips going against the grain (I sliced against the grain on the pork and it was not tough or chewy).  Place the meat in a bowl and combine the pear, soy sauce, ginger, 2 cloves garlic, sesame oil, brown sugar, and rice wine. After you mix the meat with the marinate place it in the fridge for 2 hours.

After 2 hours you can begin cooking your rice. With brown rice it can take 40 to 50 mins to cook. Rice is typically 2 cups water to every one cup rice. I'm not exactly sure if that's the way it is for brown rice but that's how I did it. Once you bring the water to a boil cover the rice and let it cook til all the water cooks out.

While your rice is cooking you can start on the veggies!! MMM!

Bring a small pot of water to a boil and throw in the bean sprouts for about 4 minutes. After that toss them with a tbsp of soy sauce. Next throw in the spinach and cook them about a minute or until they've wilted down. Drain them off and toss with sesame oil and sesame seeds... yyyyUUMM!

Next heat a skillet with vegetable oil and 2 cloves of garlic and toss in the carrots and zucchini!

Cook these for about 5 minutes or until they are as tender as you like them! I like my veggies to be still a little crunchy!

Once these are cooked place them on the side and get the meat out!!!! Heat up 1 tsp and throw on your meat! Cook your meat until its cooked through. Oh, and get your chops ready cuz this meat is soooooo tasty!

There is really no way to make meat look yummers in a picture... just fyi!

Once your meat is cooked pull it off the heat and clean the skillet out. Heat up 2 tsp of vegetable oil, crack an egg in a cook them over easy. If you have a big skillet you can do more than one at a time but I'm not that great at multiple egg cooking....

Now it's time to serve it up!!!!!!!! Its so yummy! You can do it in a bowl or on a plate.

Grab you a yummy drink and you're about to have the yummest meal you ever made for your taste buds and your belly!!

My Purse

I just made purses for two of my friends last week so this week I decided to make a purse for me! My aunt had some beautiful fabric that I LOVED and she didn't have any plans for it (she won it at her quilter's group). We found a perfect zipper (in the pile of old zippers we had) to go with it! Below are the pictures of my new purse!

I took this picture to show the lining because I had to use pieces of a gold fabric. The gold was the best color for the lining so I sewed squares of them together because they were already cut into squares.

I took this picture just to show the quilting on the machine. I put batting between the lining and the exterior fabric.

This is the final piece! I love it! The colors on the fabric look dark in certain lighting but the fabric is so pretty, it has a shiny gold outline around each part of the design!

This just a picture to show the lining incase anyone was curious! The zipper is really neat too because it has a large circle on the pull which I like because it's easy to open and close.
